The scientific program of AI Day 2020 is organized by the newly re-established Finnish Artificial Intelligence Society FAIS (Suomen tekoälyseura STeS)
. Following the principles of FAIS, a key aim of the scientific program is to provide a thorough overview of the various AI research directions currently pursued in Finland. To this end, we encourage submissions presenting recent research results and innovative applications of all areas of AI, including (but not restricted to):

  • Agent-based and Multi-agent Systems (MAS)

  • Computational Intelligence (CI)

  • Computer Vision (CV)

  • Constraints, Satisfiability and Optimization (CSO)

  • Games and Virtual Environments (GAME)

  • Heuristic Search (HEU)

  • Human Aspects in AI (HAI)

  • Human Computer Interaction (HCI)

  • Information Retrieval and Filtering (IRF)

  • Knowledge Representation and Reasoning (KRR)

  • Machine Learning (ML)

  • Multidisciplinary Topics and Applications (MULT)

  • Natural Language Processing (NLP)

  • Planning and Scheduling (PLAN)

  • Robotics (ROB)

  • Safe, Explainable, and Trustworthy AI (XAI)

  • Semantic Technologies (SEM)

  • Uncertainty in AI (UAI)

The focus of the scientific program is on communicating forefront research accomplishments of the Finnish AI research community already published or to-be-published in international peer-reviewed publication forums. To this end, we invite submission of abstracts up to 5000 characters, ideally accompanied by an already published or recently submitted scientific article on the topic. Additionally, supplemental material can be provided in the form of e.g. a video presentation, online demonstration, poster, or a related system demonstration. As there will be no published formal proceedings, submitting work for presentation at AI Day 2020 will not disqualify the work from being published at peer-reviewed forums.

Submissions are invited through CMT at https://cmt3.research.microsoft.com/AIDAY2020.

Important Dates

  • Abstract submission deadline: October 2, 2020

  • Notifications: October 16, 2020

The submissions will be screened for suitability, with an emphasis on scientific relevance in terms of AI research. A key aim in the selection of presentations is to obtain a balanced scientific program covering the various AI research directions pursued in Finland. The program committee consists of the current board members of FAIS, with expertise on a wide range of AI research areas.

As AI Day 2020 will be organized as a virtual event, accepted presentations will be demonstrated in online sessions focusing on different AI research areas through selected live presentations (expectedly around 10 min in length) and potentially through pre-recorded videos and other online materials. Detailed instructions on the final form of scientific presentations will be provided later to authors of accepted presentations.

AI Day 2020 registration fees will be waived for authors of accepted presentations. In addition to the scientific program, AI Day 2020 includes keynote talks by Michela Milano (Deputy President of EurAI), Francesca Rossi (President-elect of AAAI), Pekka Ala-Pietilä (Chair of EU High-Level Expert Group on AI), and Samuel Kaski (Director of FCAI), as well as an industry track, where AI companies share their business experiences.

For questions related to submissions to the scientific program of AI Day 2020, please send email to chair@stes.fi.
