FCAI for researchers
FCAI research and impact agenda covers a wide range of disciplines and application fields. Researchers can contribute to FCAI actions in several ways and at different levels:
by contributing to FCAI core research that builds on Research Programs and related Highlights that demonstrate impact;
by joining Special Interest Groups (FCAI SIGs);
by participating in FCAI events, including seminar series, thematic and networking events;
by contributing to other research, education and impact activities.
Below you can find out more about what FCAI has to offer to you especially:

Research programs and highlights
The core of FCAI is formed around its goal-driven Research Programs. They are designed to pursue the ambitious goal of FCAI: to create AI methods and systems that are data efficient, trustworthy, and understandable. To further concretize the impact of AI on various disciplines, FCAI has launched six multidisciplinary FCAI Highlights. The Highlights are run in close collaboration with the Research Programs and they aim to provide concrete AI-based solutions which demonstrate the scientific and socio-economic impact of the Research Programs.
We welcome new researchers interested in contributing to the FCAI research mission to take part in the Research Programs and Highlights.
Special interest groups (SIGs)
FCAI Special Interest Groups (SIGs) gather people around a common theme of interest, e.g. a specific sub-field of AI or an application area of AI. SIGs offer important contributions to the FCAI research and impact agenda and take advantage of FCAI research program results. We welcome new SIG proposals from researchers across different disciplines and institutions.
Events
FCAI organizes several events aimed at the research community as well as at the wider AI ecosystem. You can stay updated on relevant AI events by following our event calendar (RSS feed available) and social media.
Our regular events include:
Machine Learning Coffee Seminar: weekly event aimed mainly at researchers interested in machine learning and other fundamental AI research (talks available on our YouTube channel)
AIX Forum: multidisciplinary seminar series designed to function as a meeting place for people applying AI in different domains and people developing new AI tools and methods
AI Day: annual conference connects researchers, companies, students and the public sector involved in the fast-developing field of AI and promotes matchmaking, information sharing and cross-border collaboration
Helsinki Distinguished Lecture Series on Future Information Technology (organized by Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT): the focus of the lecture series is on current and future research challenges and solutions in the field of information technology, as seen by internationally leading experts

FCAI community
FCAI is both a research organization which has a sharp research and impact agenda, and an open ecosystem of researchers, companies, and public organizations gathered around a common goal. If you don’t quite know yet how you would like to contribute to FCAI research but want to stay in touch, you can join FCAI Community and its mailing list.
FCAI Community is meant for all researchers contributing to AI research or using its results. You will be kept informed about FCAI activities and match-making opportunities.
Visiting professor program
Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence FCAI hosts a visiting professor program for leading researchers from institutions other than the University of Helsinki, Aalto University or VTT, who wish to contribute to cutting-edge research with high impact. We welcome professors to join our excellent team of AI researchers for research visits of 2–12 months.
Open research positions
FCAI also welcomes applications from outstanding doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and research fellows interested in tackling challenges in machine learning and in creating artificial intelligence that is data-efficient, trustworthy, and understandable.
Researchers working in industry
AI Residence
AI Residency program is designed for IT professionals working in industry who wish to take a break from the hectic buzz of deadlines and return for a while to work in exciting research projects in academia. We will match you with leading scientists in AI and machine learning, and offer you an excellent environment to further develop your skills.
Research collaboration
FCAI is open for all joint research initiatives that advance our mission to create artificial intelligence that is data-efficient, trustworthy, and understandable. Read more about different forms of collaboration following the link below.
